Honestly, not knowing what to wear is completely normal. Picking outfits for brand photos feels WAY more high-stakes than a regular photoshoot because these images are going to be working for your business. They’re going to be on your website, your Instagram, your sales pages… anywhere and everywhere. They’re going to set the tone for your photos, bring in your brand colours, showcase the energy and vibe of your brand… all the things. So yes, what you wear matters. But it doesn’t have to be stressful, I promise.
There’s no universal ‘right’ answer for what to wear to a Calgary brand photography session, because your brand isn’t universal. What works for a bold, edgy creative is going to feel completely off for a warm, grounded wellness coach. And that’s exactly the point.

Before you start pulling outfits, think about the version of you that your dream clients need to see. What does she wear? What does her presence feel like? How can you take the answers to those questions and make sure what you end up wearing still feels authentically like you?
When you put something on and think “yes, this is it,” that’s the one. Don’t overthink it. Calgary brand photos capture your energy just as much as they capture your look, and when you feel good, it shows!
You don’t need to match your brand colours exactly, but keeping them in mind is key. You want what you wear to feel cohesive with the overall vibe and palette of your brand, not like it belongs to a completely different business.
You’ve got two options: wear your actual brand colours to really drive them home across your website, social media, and marketing materials, OR choose neutrals that complement them. Neutrals can be great for graphics and content where your brand colours are already in the background.
Either way, let the feeling of your brand guide you. If you have a soft and neutral brand, a neon top is going to feel jarring. If your brand is old and colourful, head-to-toe beige might fall flat. Not sure where to start? Pull up your website or Instagram feed. The colours already living there are a great guide.

One of the biggest advantages of a full branding session (versus a quick headshot) is variety. Multiple outfits mean more content, more versatility, and photos that can work across different platforms and campaigns WITHOUT everything looking like it was shot on the same day.
My suggestion? Plan at least three to five outfits. Mix it up: maybe one more polished and professional, one that’s a little more relaxed and lifestyle-y, and one that’s somewhere in between.

Let’s talk patterns and logos real quick. Tiny patterns, think small checks or fine stripes, tend to blur together or distort on camera and just don’t read well in photos. Big, bold patterns can work, but always ask yourself: does this pattern fit the energy I’m going for? As for logos, this is a brand shoot for YOUR business… not someone else’s. Leave the branded gear at home.
You’ll also want to skip anything that feels uncomfortable or that you’d never actually wear in real life. If your future, higher self wouldn’t be caught dead in it, it doesn’t belong in your session either. Your brand photos should feel like the most elevated, authentic version of you, not a costume.
This one is huge and it’s so often overlooked. If something doesn’t fit quite right, pants that are too long, a waist that’s too big, a top that pulls in the wrong places, get it tailored before your session. You are going to be in front of the camera and you deserve to feel incredible in every single shot. Ill-fitting clothes are one of the fastest ways to feel self-conscious, and that shows up in photos. Take the time to make sure everything fits the way it was meant to. You’re worth it.

Don’t underestimate the power of a great accessory. Jewelry, jackets, scarves, shoes, bring all of it. Accessories are what take an outfit from “nice” to “wow” and they give us so much more to work with on the day of your brand shoot. Swapping out a necklace or throwing on a blazer can make the same base outfit look like a completely different look. The more options you bring, the more versatile your gallery is going to be.

I recommend three to five outfits for a full brand session. You want enough variety that your photos can work across different platforms and campaigns: a polished professional look, something more relaxed and lifestyle-y, and a few in between. More outfits = more content = more mileage from your session.
Not exactly… but it should feel aligned. You can wear your actual brand colours to really reinforce them across your visuals, OR choose neutrals that complement them. What matters most is that your outfit feels like it belongs in YOUR brand world. If someone looked at your Instagram feed and then looked at your outfit, it should feel like the same person.
Avoid busy patterns, small stripes, and large logos as these can be distracting on camera and date your photos quickly. Anything too trendy can also work against you, since your brand photos need to feel fresh for the next 12+ months. Stick to classics, solid colours, and pieces that feel timelessly you.
Nope! Some of my favourite brand session looks come straight from a client’s existing wardrobe. The key is choosing pieces that fit well, feel like the best version of you, and align with your brand aesthetic. If you’re unsure, that’s exactly what your personalized prep guide is for. We figure it out together before you ever step in front of the camera.
